Daniel
Taylor,
Countertenor,
is one of today's most sought-after Baroque specialists. His work
has been praised in the New York Times as "Vastly refined
singing...a voice of purity, clarity and surprising power." His
Glyndebourne operatic debut in Peter Sellar's production of Handel's
Theodora was greeted with unanimous critical praise and
followed on his stunning professional operatic debut in Jonathan
Miller's production of Handel's Rodelinda.
He
receives invitations from an ever-widening circle of the world's
leading early and contemporary music ensembles, appearing in opera
(Metropolitan Opera, Glyndebourne, Rome, San Francisco) and oratorio
(The English Baroque Soloists, Les Arts Florissants, Collegium vocale
de Ghent, Berlin RIAS and Stuttgart Kammerchors, Orchestra of the
Age of Enlightenment, The Academy of Ancient Music), as well as
symphonic works and recital.
His
many recordings include Bach Cantatas with Gardiner (DG), Cantatas
"before Bach" with Herreweghe (Harmonia Mundi), Handel's Rinaldo
with Hogwood (Decca), Sakatamoto's Life (Sony), and Handel's
Theodora with Christie (Erato). In 2000, Mr. Taylor was
distinguished as Canada's most popular international artist at the
Opus Awards - the country's highest artistic honor. Upcoming engagements
include the Messiah world tour with Gardiner, Pergolesi's
Stabat Mater with McCreesh/Gabrieli consort, Vivaldi's
Gloria with Christophers/The Sixteen, Handel's Saul
with the Israel Camerata, and Handel's Esther with Thomas/American
Bach Soloists.
